Re-post of Rose's Stars

I know  I posted this about a week ago but the stars disappeared into the cosmos along with my post! These were fun blocks to make. I love how the stars magically appeared in the final step of the tutorial.  I hope they work for you. Looking forward to the finish.

May block for Jacki

I promise the background is blue...guess it's time to change the lightbulbs in the playroom - lol
Hope you enjoy, I can't wait see the completed quilt!

Hive 3 may block for Gina

I hope you like this block . I enjoyed making it .😀 Love the scrappy look it gives

Bottom of the 9th....here it comes!

May didn't go as planned, just like this block.  The first attempt is a lovely 12.5 inches.  The second attempt is closer to 13 inches.  If it doesn't work, please let me know and I'll take a third swing at it!

I'm glad I read the directions, I had pulled black fabric, thinking that was the color.

Hive 7 block for May

All done. Just in the knick of time. May was a busy sewing month for me. I was finishing up my Riley Blake challenge for MQG and a quilt for my guild's negative space challenge. Glad this block was quick, easy, fun and in my favorite color palette!

Hive 7 Blocks for Michelle

Hi All,

Here are my blocks for Michelle.  Super Easy and Super fun.  Can't wait to see them all together.

I also thought they look really great on point.

They went out in the mail today.  Hope you like them.

A Hive 6 finish

Back in March Hive 6 ladies were challenged with the task of adding blocks to the quilt that would become my husband's / our bed quilt and the block was a little tricky but everyone did a great job and really came through for me. Not to mention some very generous donations of purple scraps to help make this huge quilt.

Here was the initial challenge block (some of you may still be having nightmares about it).
After all the hive blocks arrived I had 35 with the few extras that I had already been making, so I set out to complete the others.
I originally thought that meant 21 more but in the end i ended up making 29 more for a 64 block layout. Yep -- that makes an 8 foot square quilt and Here they are all assembled into a top and ready for quilting.
I may have had to get the selfie stick out for this photo and perch myself on the ledge in our stair well.

I made the choice to send this one to the long armer because I know it's going to be around for a while. This is only the 2nd quilt I have ever sent out and I choose to go with Charlene @The Cotton Farm Fabrics because she's great and it just so happened that she was doing an awesome discount this month.

Due to it's huge nature, when it got home I took a couple of photos of it on my bed (prebinding turn) to see how it was going to look. This quilt has an overhang of 18 inches on each side and at the foot and a generous turn down at the top.
You know who made himself right at home -- surveying his newest quilt and making sure it meets his delicate needs.

Hive mates really came through for me this year -- your guys pulled it together even though the blocks were a little bit of a challenge. (My tip for bee blocks that are paper pieced -- make sure printing is set at 100% and not fit to page, this cleared up several issues a few people had right away.)

Now that it's finished it was time for fun pictures outdoors.

My husband now has a quilt of his own that's not worn out and is well made -- and since the hive mates made these blocks for him, it's like he is sleeping with a whole bunch of quilters.

Hive 2 Block done

Here is my block for May.

It was mailed out a couple of days ago and, according to the USPS receipt it should be delivered today.

The paper piecing was a little "fiddly" for me (probably because I don't do a lot of it) but I think it came out well.

The quilt should look very bright and happy. . . and I would love to see the top when it is finished.

Have a great day!

Sherry V.

Last Little Fishy

Here's the last little fishy for Jacki!

I found this fun orange and yellow stripe in my stash and hopefully it will work in with the rest of your "school"!

Hive 6 May Block for Carolyn

Hi Rebecca here from @oneweebird with Carolyn's block for May

It is a little wavy but I've starched the bejeezers out of it so hopefully it will be ok. This month was a challenge when it came to the quadrants, not sure if my scant was off or just the bias that beat me?
I will shamelessly bribe you Carolyn with chocolate instead of two blocks this month!!

Hive 1 block for Jacki

Jacki a little goldfish will be swimming its way to you this afternoon :D This was a really sweet block to make and I finally found a use for that wave fabric too, double win!

May Block

Woo! Coming in just under the wire, that's me. My first graduation season as a teacher is more or less over (one more party) and dang....that's a heck of a lot more draining than I was expecting. Not to mention being an emotional roller coaster.

Got this lovely little block done in under an hour once I had the time to sit down. The photo does NOT do it justice.

May Blocks for Hive 3, Crashes for Hives 1,4 and 7

Had these blocks all done early, just waited on addresses to mail them. Had them packaged up too - until I realized I hadn't taken photos or blogged it. At some point it's all going to come together.

Hive 3 for Gina. Fun and easy block so I made two. Hope it works for her. Fun to think they're going all the way to Wales!

Crash for Hive 1 - darling fish but I need Jacki's address?! Worried the one fish may be too teal. He's got lots of royal blue in the print too but just in case, there's a second fish.

Crash for Rose in Hive 4. She was right - the tiny block in the center DID get lost a couple times.

Crash for Michelle from Hive 7, love the colors in this, wish I'd had more blue for her.

Off to see if June's tutorials are up yet.

Crashing HIves

I have crashed a few more Hives this month and figured I had better get them posted and be ready for June's Blocks. Can't wait to see them.

I have one for Gina of Hive 3. I didn't have a repeat in the block because I love scrappy. So I will send along the extras for you to use in another block.

Then I have one for Rose of Hive 4. Love the block but was a little nervous about that 1 inch middle, but I was pleased with the outcome:

Lastly I have a block to send to Lisa of Hive 8. Very easy and loved picking out bright material.

I will get these in the mail in the day or so.

Cyndi (hive7)

Hive 4 May block for Rose

I wasn't sure about this one.  You know when you pull out every bit of blue fabric you own and discover you have lots of solids but no really dark blue fabrics in a nice print?  I eventually found this one with little bits of colour in it.  Worried this wasn't going to work with Rose's other blocks I send a quick email and thankfully she likes it!  So this block is going in the post to day for Hive 4 May block!  I really like how the dark fabrics seem to make the pinwheel star spin!

Hive 7 - May block for Michelle

❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️'ed this block! So much fun I made two and may make some for myself for a baby gift!

Can't wait to see the finished result Michelle!!

Adding a photo of the baby quilt top I made today - inspired by Michelle's block!

Hive 3 May block

I love that this block was designed by Gina. I had a great time looking through everything to find fabric.  I made two but like the others I am sending extra fabric. I mailed them yesterday.

Crashing Hive 7 for Michelle

I couldn't resist this one.  What a fun block! Quick, easy and great colors!  I can't wait to see your finished quilt, Michelle! I may just have to make some more of these.  My block will be included in Cyndi's package to you.  ;) Hope you like it.

Happy Quilting!

Hive 1 - May block

I sent this ages ago and our Queen received it but it seems I forgot to post this time. So sorry about that.

This is what was sent to our Queen :)

May block for Carolyn

Here is your geese block, Carolyn. Hope you like it.

Flying geese are so much fun to play with! I love the color palette, too. I don't have many turquoise fabrics in my stash. I'm not sure why, as it's a very pretty color. That's one thing Stash Bee helps me out with... discovering which colors I need to go fabric shopping for. :-) Can't wait to see the finished quilt!

Hive 8 May "Circle of Friends Block"

Talk about last minute.  I have had these two blocks made for Lisa for a couple of weeks. It was raining when I finished them and now the sun is so bright the pictures are washed out.  This is going to be a great quilt, cannot wait to see it finished.

May block for Hive 4

I love star blocks. Any star block. All star blocks. I'll have to add this one to my repertoire.

This block actually gave me a little trouble. My "scant 1/4 inch" seam was a little too scant and then the block was a little too big. Trimming to 13 inches would have trimmed right into the star points. Grr. A swear word or two, a quick date with my seam ripper, and a less scanty scant 1/4, and we were in business.

Hive 8 -Circle of Friends Block

Hello Hive 8!

Great block choice this month, Lisa!  I had so much fun choosing fabrics. In fact, I couldn't stop at just 8 fun fabrics so I picked 16 and made 2 blocks!

I know you didn't request the fabrics to be arranged in rainbow order, but my inner neat freak couldn't do it any other way!!!

This is going to be a stunning quilt when it's done - I'm excited to see how it comes together.

Hive 3 block for Gina

Gina asked for a scrappy block that she created and named Catherine's Wheel.  Here is mine:
I didn't quite finish an entire second block, but I do have several pieces to send you, Gina.  I hope you can use them!
I learned that I did not have much in the way of low volume prints in my stash, so I took it as an excuse to visit my local quilt shop.  I now have a more robust collection, so bring on those blocks that use a lot of low volume prints, ladies!

Hive 5 block for Erin

Thanks for the festive block! It's a fun reminder to think of handmade gifts NOW instead of when it's too late to finish them for Christmas.  I hope Spring is starting in Colorado.

I left the borders on this block a little large so you could try it as you wish.

We are winding up our school year and it's going out with a bang! With a graduating senior, it always adds even more to May Mayhem.

Hive 4 for Rose

Here is my star for Rose.  For once it was slightly on the large side instead of slightly on the small side, and I was very happy.

I brought it to the mailbox today, but it looks like the mail came early.  So it'll probably go out tomorrow.

Hive 2 Wanta-Fanta for Debbie.

New block for Debbie and it is an easy one for me because ........
it is paper piecing and that is NO problem for me.
That means as long as the printer is doing what it is supposed to do.
These blocks need to be bigger........problem, check the settings and the problem is gone.
I bought one fat quarter background fabric.
This and some garbage is what's left of it.
The four parts of printed fabric I did use.
one orange  and
 one blue.
The snowball-block I made with the Corner Pop ruler [link]
That works much better than what the pattern tells you to do.
At least for me that is.
Debbie, I do hope you like your block, I did like making it.
Warm regards, Marga
Have a nice day ♥
